High-res version

Earlier this summer this short clip from Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn’s Drive (starring the always reliable Ryan Gosling and the constantly charming Carey Mulligan) really impressed me with its confident low-key direction and underlying tension, creating excitement in a way that’s become too rare in this age of popcorn:

Refn won the prize for Best Director at this year’s Cannes Film Festival and now the film is finally being released for a wider audience. The film is described as a thriller about “a Los Angeles wheelman for hire, stunt driving for movie productions by day and steering getaway vehicles for armed heists by night” with some love, gangsters and double cross added into the mix. Let’s hope it lives up to its trailer:
