Onyx Ashanti atomizes music culture and calls it Beatjazz

If Tony Stark played jazz and had a more creative superhero name, he would be Onyx Ashanti. Ashanti calls himself a “sci-fi obsessed electronic jazz artist” and “futurologist instrument inventor” and was one of 17 finalists in TED’s Full Spectrum auditions. There he presented beatjazz, “music created with two handheld controllers, an iPhone and a mouthpiece, and played with the entire body”:
As Ashanti explains in the video, his vision is to “atomize music culture so that all past, present and future genres can be studied and abstracted, live/…/[and] to make the future rather than wait for it”. Watch Ashanti demonstrate how the “Tron Beat Jazz Controller” system works:
I’d love to see a collaboration between Ashanti and Opolopo!
